Preview of the Second Annual Westchester Toughman Half Iron Distance 8/5/2009 |
|
|
The second annual Westchester Toughman Half Iron Distance will be an exciting showdown between Dominic Gillen, and Scott Defillipis who dueled it out for first and second place last year. Toughman newcomer Ryan Bates will be on hand as well to lead a pro team from the Midwest USprotri.com.
The women’s race will feature local veterans Mimi Boyle, and Alyson Llerandi.
This years Toughman Half, held on Sept 13th at 8am at Croton Point Park is just 30 minutes from NYC with a train stop at the park. Toga Bike shop will be offering a bike/athlete transport as well, making it easier for NYC dwellers. The beauty of this race is how close it is to every area in NY, NJ and CT and the amazing location. Athletes no longer need to travel 6hrs to race a great half.
The course is challenging but not undoable. The reason for this is because it has been put together by a team of triathletes that have been racing for 20+ years. The 1.2m fresh water swim is in a protected cove of the Hudson River. Not only is the water pristine but you won’t see any jellyfish in this body of water.
The 56m bike is a rolling course that includes route 100 in Somers (the official time trial of the Empire State Games in 2007), and winds its way around northern Westchester with beautiful views of the Titicus Reservoir, and Croton River. The 13.1m run traverses the Croton Aquaduct and comes back over the Croton Dam with half of it being on trails.
Bagpipers and Cheerleaders will be located throughout the course to inspire the runners.
A purse of $4500 will be awarded to the top 3 overall male and females while age group winners will get a Canon digital D10 camera. All finishers will get a custom medal and Zoot Sports shirt.
Our family of sponsors include: Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Canon, Coke, Jarden, Red Bull, Zootsports, Cliff Bar, ShopRite, BMW, Gatorade, Toga Bike Shops, St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, Westchester Road Runners, Forescout Technologies, Sleepy Hollow Bike Shop, Trisports, Sunrise Tri Shop, and True Motion Apparel.
Race Organizer Richard Izzo is happy to say that this years’ race will officially be closed out to registrants by race day. This is due to the tireless work of his staff and the overwhelming support of the triathlon community.
