Tinman Half Iron

June 24th 2016 marked the 34th running of the Tinman Half Iron race in Tupper Lake. Rebranded a TOUGHMAN event 3 years ago and a qualifier to the TOUGHMAN NY Nationals on Sept 18th, this year’s race had a field that was 30% larger since joining the series.

Matt Migonis returned to defend the overall male title with a 4:14 and local Amy Farrel won the female overall race with a 4:41, no easy feat since both of these athletes have full time jobs. Amy even owns one of the local hotels in Tupper Lake. The trademark of every TOUGHMAN event was the post race BBQ with the local Tupper Lake Brewery supplying free beer to the athletes.

This is a great tune-up for the longer distances and many athletes routinely use this race to check out the hills of the Adirondacks.

“We continue to grow in both popularity and the number of races because we represent grass roots triathlon but with a standardized format. Athletes that register for a TOUGHMAN race know that they will get a safe, great race experience at every TOUGHMAN venue. Having a brand that caters specifically to age groupers and families is good for the sport.”

Over 100 age group qualifiers will receive invitations for the TOUGHMAN Half Iron National Championship on Sept. 18th in New York where they will compete for a cash purse of $4950. Athletes in the open division will compete for over $30,000 worth of awards.
