FUELBELT WOMEN DOMINATE AT THE IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

(Barrington, RI) The story at this year's 2012 Hawaii Ironman World Championship race was all about the women. FuelBelt professionals, Caroline Steffen and Leanda Cave raced side-by- side for most of the bike and run with an exciting race to the finish line in 90-degree temps and strong winds.
In the end, Leanda Cave, of Great Britain, dug deep and took her second world championship title in three weeks just after another incredible victory at the 70.3 World Championship in Las Vegas. Cave's race day splits included a 56:03 swim, 5:12:06 bike and 3:03:13 run crossing the greatest finish line in endurance sports in 9:15:54.
"FuelBelt products have been a vital part of my preparation and my race. The training miles I need to do would not have been possible without the aid of my FuelBelt Revenge, gel flask or pockets to carry my nutrition. Same goes for race day," said Cave. Leanda's race day gear included a FuelBelt Race Number Belt with 3 additional pockets to store her essentials.
Caroline Steffen, of Switzerland, who finished second in 2010 and 5th in 2011, led the race until the last 3 miles of the marathon coming in just a minute behind Cave at 9:16:58. Steffen posted a huge win at Ironman Melbourne earlier in March and was a clear favorite heading into this years Hawaii race. Caroline is a big fan of the 2-bottle Revenge Belt during training and used her 7oz. FuelBelt bottles on race day to carry her own sports nutrition which was supported by aid stations throughout the bike and run.
The men's race was equally exciting with Australian, Pete Jacobs, taking the mens' title for the first time and Tim O'Donnell taking 8th overall as the second American overall. 3x defending World Champion, Craig Alexander, battled an ongoing back injury to finish 11th. Both Craig Alexander and Tim O'Donnell wore their custom 2-bottle Revenge Belts on race day.
With Leanda's win, FuelBelt now holds 10 Hawaii Ironman World Championship titles and 6 70.3 World Championship titles - in addition to dozens of age group world titles.
