The gold and silver medalists from the London 2012 Games join women's medalists Spirig and Norden in a star-studded field.

DES MOINES, IA - The gold and silver medalists in men's triathlon at the recent Olympic Games in London have accepted special invitations to compete in the Hy-Vee 5150 U.S. Championship Elite Cup race in Des Moines on September 2.

Gold medalist Alistair Brownlee of Great Britain and silver medalist Javier Gomez of Spain join the women's gold and silver medalists - Nicola Spirig of Switzerland and Lisa Norden of Sweden - in what Hy-Vee Triathlon organizers are calling the event's strongest professional field to date.

"Olympic gold medalists, world champions, Ironman and Ironman 70.3 champions - this is going to be the most diverse, most exciting field we've ever had," said Darin Hirl, event director. "Fans will be able to see the biggest names in triathlon racing for the biggest purse in triathlon history."

Brownlee and Gomez join other notable names in the men's field, including four-time U.S. Olympian Hunter Kemper; 2010 Ironman world champion Chris McCormack of Australia; former ITU world champion and Hy-Vee Triathlon winner Tim Don of Great Britain; and Ironman 70.3 medalists Filip Ospaly of the Czech Republic and Tim O'Donnell and Matt Reed of the U.S.

On the women's side, Olympic medalists Spirig and Norden will be racing against reigning Ironman 70.3 champion Melissa Rollison of Australia; former ITU world champion and Ironman and Ironman 70.3 medalist Leanda Cave of Great Britain; and U.S. Olympian Sarah Groff, who finished a close fourth in London.
