HITS Triathlon Series offers free Hunter Mountain entry to Ironman NYC athletes not racing this weekend as a result of water quality concerns

AUGERTIES, NY- On the heels of learning about water quality issues resulting from a sewer-line break leading up to this weekend's Ironman U.S. Championship in New York City, HITS has announced it will offer athletes the opportunity to race for free at its upcoming Hunter Mountain event scheduled for September 22-23. Any athlete who can show proof that they registered for this weekend's race, but did not participate will receive a free entry to the HITS Full distance race at Hunter Mountain on Saturday, September 22. "It's an unfortunate circumstance, no doubt," said Mark H. Wilson, HITS Race Director. "Anytime a triathlon has to be modified to remove the swim it's going to be a disappointment both to the organizers and the athletes. We wanted to offer this opportunity as an alternative to folks who have trained hard for a Full distance race who still want that experience." The HITS Triathlon Series Hunter Mountain II will take place at North/South Lake State Park in Haines Falls, NY. The swim will take place in the pristine waters of North/South Lake, which sits within the boundaries of a spacious state park. The bike and run courses will take athletes on a stunning mountain-top journey during the start of the fall foliage season in the Catskills. Full and Half distance athletes will race on Saturday, while Sprint, Olympic and Open athletes will take to the course on Sunday. This offer is open to any athlete who registered for the Ironman U.S. Championship in New York City and did not race any portion of the event. Athletes must show proof of registration in order to be eligible for the free Full distance race entry. Athletes interested in taking advantage of this invitation to race at HITS Hunter Mountain should contact info@HitsTriathlonSeries.com with their proof of registration.

Course maps for HITS Hunter Mountain II are available online and can be viewed here. Registration for HITS Hunter Mountain II is open until Tuesday, September 18 at 11:59pm Eastern Time.
