Xtri Gear Review: The Vasa Ergometer

As triathletes the one thing we're short on is time. When it comes to swimming, hardly anything compares to the efficiencies you gain using the latest Vasa Ergometer. Vasa has gone high tech with their latest unit which provides you with a digital data readout to keep track of your progress. You can adjust the level of difficulty of your swim stroke while keeping an eye on your form. For drills and form work, nothing
comes close.
For a reason beyond me, I signed up for Ironman St. George which takes place on May 1st. With two little girls and a business to run, one way I've streamlined my preparation was by spending a few key swim sessions a week on the Vasa Erg. What I've noticed is that the workouts are shorter (but harder), and more importantly, my times in the pool are actually coming down. Functional strength is key and I've been able to get several pointers on how to best use the Vasa Trainer from Todd
and Lisbeth Kenyon who have worked closely with Vasa founder, Rob Sleamaker.
I put the Vasa Trainer in the same camp as the power meter and the Computrainer. How did you ever get a long without these things, and if you don't have one, what are you waiting for? These tools, used properly, can make you a time productive warrior ready to conquer the hundreds of tasks ahead. Don't be a slave to the commute, unpredictable pool hours and too many people in your lane. Spread the workload out and get more done in less time. Substitute 1, 2 or 3 of your workouts at the
pool for a killer Vasa workout. It's a solid and essential piece of gear that every triathlete should have in their arsenal. When you're training for three sports, time is everything.
